First trip away of 2018

Post by Steady Eddy on Sun Feb 04, 2018 9:19 am

Well the first trip away of 2018 was a short five day trip to the Isle of Anglesey with the Daughter and her partner staying in a cottage that was fairly central and a good time was had by all loads to see and only scratched the surface a few camera phone pics to be going on with havent got round to updown loading the stuff taken on the blunder bus , it is a lovely area but it was rather on the chilly side but did manage to stay reasonably dry ,

We’re off on our first motorhome trip of 2018 on Thursday, staying on the car park of the Marine Hall in Fleetwood on the other side of the River Wyre estuary. I’m afraid that alcohol will be involved as there is a Beer Festival running for three days. Then on the 21st we fly out to Orlando for three weeks of touring.

You'll have to get in touch if you end up in the space center area...

The Space Center is definitely on the visit list! We’ll be working out a rough route before we go & will keep you updated, probably daily (if only to irritate Eddy, lol).

Went to a great launch yesterday. Elon Musk sending his Tesla into space on a Falcon "heavy". Hopefully they'll be something heading spaceward during your visit...

Yeah, it was a long day outside with all the delays, but worth it. I was pretty much as close as you can get (just behind security vehicles and fire trucks), and had a clear day, so a great experience.

Get the (brief) bonus of seeing the boosters come back and land including the associated sonic boom(s).

No hangover, just tired. Went to dinner at a friend’s house yesterday evening & didn’t get back home until well after midnight. Off to the Beer Festival shortly, making the most of this week before Lent starts in six days’ time. Have a good time in Scotty-land. xx

Ha! I wondered how close you'd get. Must have been a local vacation day for the good people of Titusville. Hard not to get carried along with the excitement even from 2700 km away (I measured). Noise didn't make it this far though. It was cloudy here too... Didn't see a thing. Wink

And now, of course, I want a red convertible. Want to sell the Miata?

Yeah, had a launch pass for what is called the "turn basin", a small harbor where large pieces of rockets are barged in between the VAB and press area.

This allowed a car load of non-employees to get in, so we made a day of it with spouses and others.

We are all space/rocket fans around here, so get excited for launches, even if not stuff we are responsible for.

Don't think the Miata would survive some of the roads I saw up there. My rutted driveway (from the hurricane flooding) is a bit much for it right now.

Not sure it would be classed as a launch but we had this chap doing a couple of touch and goes at Prestwick Airport
