... and I start planning (again!) for next year... or maybe the Manx Oops... excuse me, the 'Classic'... I did some regular stuff after missing the live feed and listening to bits and pieces late Friday evening. That MV! What a sound! Like a drug...

Anyhoo... I said I was going to cut the grass, and that is what I did.

... and that takes for-ever because the 'lawn' is a never ending 'project'!

You'll notice what a lovely day it is too! Same as the Senior day but a little cooler... No problem slogging around though, tomorrow we play on the bike!

NO! Tomorrow (today) somebody sent the first 'post tropical storm' our way and it rained solid sheets!

BUT! I just bought my first new set of tools since I was given a set of Husky tools when I was 12 years old! Too good a deal to pass up ($37)

and since it was raining, it was a perfect day to change the oil! Only needed one socket really, but it was fun to caress the other 257 perfect shiny chrome bits and pieces.

Now the question arises though... What to do with the old tools?

They represent... well, they represent YEARS of my life, banged knuckles, broken things, heart-break and success, mundane chores, and creative triumphs!
Can't just throw them out!

For that matter, as I was contemplating the light coating of rust, my eyes fell on the closet next to the workbench...

What do you do with old helmets? Same story, with some life saving stuff thrown in there to be thankful for as well!

And these! They're just lying on the floor during the oil change... What to do with them??

Oh gawd... J.P. with new tools... and it was such a nice new bike...

The old "Ferrari mechanic" tools do look a bit old and crusty (but used).

We should have a "toolbox pic" thread. That and "bike related stuff pic" for those things that are not specific to actually riding the bike that we all collect (or are given) over the years...

As soon as I think of something to post, maybe I'll create one... scratch

Edible tools? Not sure if they count. Maybe if you have kept them for a few decades, that would be OK to include them...

I was going to take a picture of some more tools I've got and then thought of ANOTHER pack-rat thread we could start.
CAMERAS!
There must be a dozen digital cameras lying around here, most of them still operational. AND I've still got almost all my film cameras stored away somewhere too!
I may qualify for a spot on 'Hoarders'..

Emergency responders on this side just narrowly averted strike this week. Unemployment on the island around 15%. ER closings on rotation because of lack of doctors. Raining so hard the water table has risen above the garage floor. Drove to meeting in Halifax (5 hours) to be told I'm to be the only designer left in my store (we were 4), and no compensation for drastically increased workload and responsibility.

Yeah, we are suffering a "slow death" around here employment between government "sequestering" (I won't bother explaining here), and the loss of the shuttle program.

First, it is a big impact, but then it slowly causes a "domino" effect, as the secondary businesses die off.  The only advantage we have is that we are essentially "cheap" Florida, so retirees and tight tourists can still keep us going to a degree.

I am getting pressured to move for my job, but the value of my house is so low, it is presenting a tough situation.

Jumbo garage could be yours!

Right Smilo! Friend here just bought a 4 bedroom house (I think near Clearwater) with garage, 6 years old, couple of miles from the beach, for $$55,000. Splitting the cost between her and her daughter reduces it to the cost of a car payment. Her similar but older house here in Toronto is selling for some $650K... so you can see the reasoning.

Well, at least I spent it on TT trips when I had it...

Being an honorary Yorkshireman, any potential loss of funds isn't the scary part (just a challenge).

It's mostly annoyance at being jerked around by employers and other large organizations that sense their power increasing as situations become more desperate for the individuals.

Touche! I noticed the Paris Air Show has no US fighter planes this year because of 'Sequestration' (WTF is that??). No US contingent in the War Games at Cold Lake base in Canada either (same excuse). I suppose with a zillion dollars debt, you have to cut SOMEwhere!
I'm old enough to remember when the Conservative Canadian government cut our Avro air program in the 50's (remember the Avro Arrow?). Whether or not the thing could fly properly, they cut the program loosing hundreds of top engineers and scientists. The workforce all went to the US space program and in return Canada bought a whole pile of Bomarc missiles to defend us from the evil Russian Bear.
Wasn't such a great trade.
I wonder what is going to get lost in all this budget re-arranging? Moon exploration? Mars visit? New shuttle? (God knows that will be necessary after watching the Soyuz crash landings).
The multi-national company I work for has recently initiated some 'cost saving moves' that will save 10 cents and loose one dollar for the foreseeable future.
Doesn't anybody who initiates these moves actually have any work experience?
Too many MBAs spoil the stew!

Well its world wide all the different governments through out the world have the problems that the Banks F--cked up and there had to be a pay back time and as ever the people that do the Paying are the little guys at the bottom of the pack , YOU and ME and from where I am stood it looks a long hard slog and for some it will inevitably be harder than others tighten the belts fingers to the grind stone and hope for the best , but the worst part of all this is that the w--kers that cocked up are the ones that suffer the least
