It's home from calgary
I went to Calgary last weekend and brought home my brand new 2013 DR650.
Spent 2 days in the shed with it. Mounted a Acerbis 5.3 petrol tank. built a block for wiring harness. mounted a 12volt accessory plug and a wiring plug for my electric vest.
Went out for a 200km ride.
Took it out yesterday for another 200km ride.
I really like the bike. The mirrors are useless. have a great view of my elbows and shoulders. I have to get some extentions for the stock mirrors. And the seat is painful but I have room to scrunch my butt back and forth until I find an after market seat for it.
My first big test will be to Regina on May 25. Going to a blessing of the bikes ceremony with the Christian motorcycle assoc and Salvation Army.
Then figure out what I need to adjust and its off to Saskatoon for ride for Dad prostate cancer fund ride. Then to meet up with other members of the Saskatchewan dual sport riders club and we are riding 1200km of the trans Canada adventure trail over a 3 day weekend.
Cheers

I was in the local shop last week kicking a Dr and an KLR next to each other. The DR has a lot less plastic stuck on it, and as you know, is quite a bit shorter. After reading about all the adventure guys out on their various similar mounts, either one is tempting. A buddy of my son showed up here on a DR a few years ago and I was amazed at the speed of the thing. He did complain about the amount of road work we did that weekend though. Particularly around the tip of the Cabot Trail with the wind up a bit. He said it felt like a big sail on some stretches!
Nothing is perfect I guess... That's why my attention keeps getting drawn to the KLR250 right next to the pair of 650's. Everybody needs more than one bike, right?
Another friend's son just got back from a little ride from Cape Town to Belgium ( ) on a TransAlp. This was a year after riding from Texas to Bueno Aires ( ) on a KLR. Both bikes were improved by the addition of sit-on sheep's clothing! My Ninja is uncomfortable after an hour as well. You'd think manufacturers could build better seats for a few bucks more?
Sounds like you've got a new best friend there Timmy! Have fun on the Trans Canada Trail. I've watched the riders comments on the Eastern portion of the route. Looks good!

I did a successful round trip this weekend.
I left Maple Creek at 0800hrs with a grand total of 482 km on her.
Got home 2000 hrs Sunday night after doing some off road trails with 3 other folks from the Saskatchewan Dual sport club.
We went north to Regina beach and played about on the trails and through puddles and mud and hills both up and down. Great fun.
I stayed over night in Grand Coulee and went to Regina City for Church and the blessing of the bikes service.
And she now has 1522 km on her.
I just rolled at 110/120km/h on the hiway. I found it OK.
I'm a bit surprised at the power that single cylinder has. For a single cylinder motorbike that is.
Cheers

Couple of years ago, my son and his buddy followed me around the Cabot Trail. His buddy's DR scared the be-jeebous outta me by passing me on a straight stretch at WAY over the speed at which 'dual-sports' are assumed to go!!
Bit of a sail on the mountain top though...
